Do I Need a Patch Test for Brows or a Lash Lift? | Jax-Glam Beauty Bristol

If you’re booking a brow tint, brow lamination or lash lift, you may be wondering when your patch test needs to be done.
Patch testing is an important part of carrying out these treatments safely, but the rules can vary slightly depending on the products used. At Jax-Glam Beauty, I use professional systems from HD Brows, Beautiful Brows & Lashes, Infinity Hybrid and lifted by LashBase, so I follow the relevant manufacturer guidance for each treatment.
The simple rule for clients is: your first patch test must be completed at least 48 hours before treatment.
Do I need a patch test before a brow or lash treatment?
Yes. A patch test is required at least 48 hours before your first tint, brow lamination or lash lift treatment at Jax-Glam Beauty.
This helps check that you do not react to the products being used and allows the treatment to be carried out as safely as possible.
How long before my appointment should I have a patch test?
Your patch test must be completed at least 48 hours before your treatment.
It does not need to be exactly 48 hours beforehand, ideally in the few weeks before your first treatment.
How long does a patch test last?
At Jax-Glam Beauty, a clear patch test will usually remain valid for up to 6 months, provided there have been no relevant changes to your health, medication, allergies or the products being used. Some professional product systems have different retesting guidance, so I always follow the relevant manufacturer's instructions.
Do I need another patch test if I haven’t had the treatment yet?
Not necessarily.
If your patch test was clear, you don't automatically need another one simply because you haven't booked the treatment straight away. You may still be able to have your treatment several weeks later, provided your patch test is still valid and there have been no relevant changes to your health, medication, allergies or the products being used.
Do I need another patch test if I regularly have the same treatment?
You may not need a new patch test before every appointment, asl long as your next treatment is within 6 months.
However, a new patch test may be required if:
- there has been a longer break between treatments,
- your health or medication has changed,
- you have developed new allergies or sensitivities,
- or the products or formulation being used have changed.
Patch tests are free, so if you are ever concerned about anything its always best to pop back for another patch test just to make sure.
Do I need a patch test if I’ve had the same treatment at another salon?
Yes.
A patch test is still required before your first relevant treatment at Jax-Glam Beauty, even if you have previously had a lash lift, brow lamination or tint elsewhere.
Different salons may use different brands, formulations and products, so a previous treatment elsewhere does not confirm that you will not react to the products I use.
Can I sign a waiver so I can have the treatment without a patch test?
No.
If a patch test is required for your treatment, it cannot be waived by signing a form.
The patch test is carried out in the interest of your health and safety and to help reduce the risk of an allergic reaction.
If you have not completed the required patch test in time, your treatment will need to be rearranged.
What happens during a patch test?
A very small amount of the relevant product is applied to the skin according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
The appointment is quick, but you then need to monitor the area for the required period before your treatment.
If you notice redness, itching, swelling, blistering or any other reaction, please let me know and do not go ahead with the treatment.
What happens if I react to the patch test?
If the patch-tested area becomes red, itchy, swollen, blistered or otherwise irritated, do not go ahead with the treatment. Please send me a clear photo so I can record the reaction on your client file.
Your appointment will be cancelled and any deposit paid for that treatment will be refunded.
The purpose of patch testing is to identify a possible sensitivity before a larger amount of product is used during the full treatment.
Can I have a brow or lash treatment if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?
t depends on the treatment and the professional product system being used.
Some tinting, brow lamination and lash lift products are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, while others may be suitable following consultation and manufacturer guidance.
Please let me know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding when booking so I can confirm which treatments are suitable.
Do I need a new patch test if my medication or health changes?
Possibly, yes.
Changes to medication, health conditions, allergies or sensitivities can affect how your skin responds to a product.
If anything has changed since your last patch test, please let me know before your appointment so I can advise whether a new test is required.
Should I book my treatment at the same time as my patch test?
Yes — you can book your treatment in advance at the same time as arranging your patch test.
Your treatment booking will require the usual 50% deposit. If you have a reaction to your patch test, please send me a photo of the reaction so I can add it to your client record. Your treatment will then be cancelled and your deposit will be refunded.
Please do not go ahead with the treatment if you notice redness, itching, swelling, blistering or another reaction following your patch test.
