Treatment Advice & Aftercare

I hope you are looking forward to your appointment.

I have put together a brief list of tips to follow to ensure your treatment goes as smoothly and lasts as long as possible.

  • Spray Tan

    Before your spray tan:

    • Do not shave 24 hours before your treatment, or 48 hours if waxing. This time allows pores to close properly and prevents tell-tale dotting that can appear after your tan's application.
    • Exfoliate regularly on the run-up to your tan, including the day before, paying particular attention to elbows, knees, ankles and any stubborn, dry areas.
    • Apply moisturiser the night before to keep your skin super smooth and replace any moisture lost from hair removal or exfoliation.
    • Rinse off all products, oils, and moisturisers, including makeup and deodorant or perfume.
    • If eyelash/brow tinting, this must be done 48 hours before or after as the tan can react with the peroxide, or a barrier can be applied over your hair.

    Immediately after your spray tan

(for the duration of development time, which will be confirmed depending on what product you use)

    Do not:

    • Wear tight clothing, opting for dark, loose clothing instead (a onesie is perfect!)
    • Sit on light fabric/leather seats.
    • Get your skin wet, including washing your hands, babies dribbling on you, going out in the rain or spilling tea/ wine on yourself!
    • Sweat, exercise or swim.
    • Shave for at least 12 hours
    •  Avoid applying any products such as makeup, moisturiser or deodorant, as they will dilute the tan while it's soaking into your skin.
    • When you're ready for your first shower, applying a layer of moisturiser beforehand will protect your skin from the harsh water and help your tan last a day or two longer.  It is quite normal to see some colour come off at first.
    • A rapid tan development time is up to 4 hours depending on the colour you would like to go (1.5 hours healthy summer tan to 4 hours for a deep dark tan) but please allow 12 hours for the tan to fully develop as it carries on developing after your shower.

    Maintaining Your Tan:

    • Pat skin dry instead of rubbing after washing.
    • Apply oil-free moisturiser morning and evening (the thicker the better! ~ available to buy from Jax-Glam Beauty!)
    • Avoid sweating excessively as this may cause your tan to fade unevenly.
    • Avoid long, hot showers/baths as this can speed up exfoliation.
    • Avoid swimming pools and saunas.
    • Avoid waxing, preferably until the tan has disappeared.
    • Shaving exfoliates the skin, so fades your tan. A dull razor scrapes off more skin, so use a sharp clean razor, with a lubricating product. An electric razor or epilator will fade tan less.
    • Always use oil-free suntan lotion.
    • Gently exfoliate after 3-5 days to help the tan fade evenly.

A woman’s tan may develop differently due to various hormonal changes (ovulation, menstruation, pregnancy). It may be streaky, patchy, fade more quickly, produce a much lighter look or no colour at all.

The following products and chemicals may also have an impact on the look of your tan, its development or staying power:

AHA products (Alpha Hydroxy Acids -Glycolic, Lactic, Malic, Citric and Tartaric acids), anti-acne products that exfoliate or dry the skin (e.g. Accutane, and salicylic acid), antibiotics or other medications that affect your skin, Retin-A type products (Retin-A, Renova, Tazorac, Tretinoin), anti-aging products that "renew" "refresh" or otherwise exfoliate the skin, band-aid or adhesive tape, bar soaps (especially deodorant or antibacterial varieties), BHA Products (Beta Hydroxy Acids, e.g. salicylic acid), body hair bleach products, adhesive facial strips (e.g. Biore) or 'peel-off' masks, bug spray, perfumes, body sprays (spray clothing or a 'cloud' of spray that you can walk through, instead of directly on to skin), Dove soap, and Dove Shower gel, Curel lotions, Imperial Leather soaps and shower gels, facial masks and exfoliating scrubs, hair inhibiting lotions (Jergens etc.), makeup remover or oils used to clean away eye makeup, baby oil, toners containing alcohols or witch hazel in the top three ingredients, wax or depilatory hair removal products (Nair, Veet, Neet etc.), use of a loofah, scrub,  mitt etc. for daily washing (use a gentle washcloth or soft shower poof instead).

If you exercise and sweat heavily your tan can fade faster, especially around your joints and between your breasts.

In winter, skin is often very dry, causing your tan to fade faster. To counteract this, apply moisturiser twice daily, using a lotion after showering on damp skin and heavier body cream, just before bed. Body butter can also be used twice daily. Regular, light exfoliation can be helpful.

People with oily skin tend to develop a lighter tan than people with dry skin. The oils tend to coat the skin while dry skin absorbs more products faster, causing it to look darker.

  • Facial & Dermaplaning

Please arrive without any makeup or products on your face ready for your facial.

After your facial treatment, the skin can be a little sensitive.  For 24  hours, please avoid:

    • Makeup (Lipstick/gloss and mascara may be worn).
    • Heat treatments; sauna, steam room, sunbed, direct sunlight and swimming.
    • Touching or rubbing the face.
    • Soaps/products. Wash face with water only.
    • Drink plenty of water.
    • Always use SPF

    Dermaplaning Aftercare Advice:

It's normal for the skin to look red or a bit rough a few days following treatment, though this should fade quickly.

    • Spots or blemishes may appear after dermaplaning as the skin has been cleaned and impurities have been drawn from the layers of the skin. Continue with homecare recommendations and to not pick your skin.
    • Skin will be drier following this treatment so moisturiser is the single most important tool for the days following. Be consistent and generous, as this will help the skin recover.
    • SPF should be worn everyday, but is extra important now that some very youthful skin cells are at the surface.
    • The products should be left for around 12 hours to get the maximum benefit.
    • Avoids getting your face wet, swimming or steam for at least this amount of time
    • It is recommended not to apply make up or self-tan for up to 12 hours after the treatment to allow the skin to fully absorb the products used during the treatment, It also allows time for the skin to ‘breathe’ so as not to clog the pores.
    • Try to avoid drinking caffeine or alcohol where possible as these are highly dehydrating to the skin, making the skin dry and dull.
    • Drinking plenty of water (1.5 - 2 litres a day). This will greatly improve the skin's complexion and help rid the body of toxins, giving a healthy glow.
    • Avoid the sun immediately after the treatment and for the next 7 days as the top layer of dead skin cells will have been removed, therefore making the skin particularly sensitive to sunlight. Don't forget to protect the skin from UV light on a daily basis to help prevent skin damage.
    • Avoid heat treatments for 24-48 hours
    • Avoid exfoliating products such as AHA whilst receiving treatment
    • Keep your skin clean and moisturised, Use a moisturiser daily to reduce any peeling that may occur.

    Facial Care Advice

    • Cleanse, tone and moisturise twice a day using suitable products for your skin type.
    • Use products that contain an SPF.
    • Exfoliate 1-2 times a week.
    • Use a face mask once a week.
    • Eat a balanced diet and drink at least 2 litres of water a day.
    • Get plenty of beauty sleep!
    • Have regular facials.

  • Radio Frequency Facial Therapy (RF)

    PRE-TREATMENT RECOMMENDATIONS

    1 week before –

    • Cut back on toxins such as caffeine, alcohol, tobacco
    • Increase water intake and aim to drink 2 litres a day
    • Do not undergo any other facial treatments
    • Avoid sunbeds and sunbathing

    1 day before –

    • Do not drink alcohol or sugary drinks
    • Drink 1-2 litres of water
    • Do not wear any make-up, lotions or creams on the day of treatment

    Aftercare:

    1. Use Sun Protection (Min SPF 30)

    2. Hydration/ Moisturise

    3. Avoid Harsh Products (strong acids or retinoids)

    4. Gentle Cleansing: to remove impurities without irritating. Avoid exfoliating or abrasive cleansers for a few days post-treatment.

    5. No Hot Baths or Saunas for 48 hours after

    6. Post-Treatment Redness: Some individuals may experience mild redness or warmth immediately after the RF Facial. This is normal and typically subsides within a few hours. Applying a cool compress can help alleviate any temporary redness.

    7. Avoid Touching, Makeup: Touching, extractions.

    8. Stay Hydrated: Drink an adequate amount of water to support overall skin health. Proper hydration from within contributes to the skin’s natural radiance and recovery.

    9. Have A good Consistent Skincare Routine:

  • Microneedling

Please allow the following waiting times for specific procedures (on area to be treated)

    • Dermal Fillers / Botox - 2 weeks

    • IPL / Laser treatments - 2 weeks

    • Isoretinoin (eg. Roaccutane) - 6 - 12 months post treatment

    • Laser Resurfacing/Ablative - 8 weeks

    • Recent facial operations - At least 3 months post-surgery

    • Strong chemical peels - PH lower than 3.1. - wait 2 weeks

    • Tattooing / Cosmetic Tattooing 3 months

    Stop using/taking 1 week before:

    • Anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen. These will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical for your skin rejuvenation.

    • Benzoyl peroxide / adapalene (Differin)

    • Exfoliants and/or AHA or BHA

    • Fish Oils / Plant oil/omega 3s (Sensitive/bruising)

    • Ginseng/Ginko Biloba/St Johns Wart

    • Hydroquinone / Koic acid / azelaic acid

    • Retinoids

    • Tropical Antibiotics

    • Hair Removal, Waxing, and depilatory creams.

    Aftercare

    • Avoid touching the treatment area for up to 24 hours, particularly with unwashed hands, as may cause irritation and infection.

    • DO NOT EXPOSE YOURSELF TO THE SUN. After you have undergone your microneedling procedure the skin channels will be completely open for up to 24 hours. Topical products should be avoided as well as staying out of the sun. Do not apply any sunscreen for 24 hours due to the chemicals that may be contained in the lotion. After 24 hours UV exposure should be minimised for 2 weeks and a minimum SPF 30 should be used.

    • DO NOT USE ANY "ACTIVE INGREDIENT" SKIN PRODUCTS.  Post procedure avoid any skin care product that has active ingredients. These commonly include things like AHA's BHA'S, Retinol, Vitamin C, Tyronaise inhibitors and other similar agents. The skin may be sensitised and such ingredients will exacerbate this sensitivity. We recommend avoidance for minimum of 7 - 14 days.

    • AVOID THE USE OF MAKEUP AFTER TREATMENT.  It is imperative that you let your skin "breathe" and recover for 24 hours after the procedure. The Skin channels are open, and using a makeup brush can cause further irritation And/ or infection.  Wait 24 to 48 hours before you apply makeup to give your skin the necessary recovery time. You can use make up after 24 hours. Thoroughly clean your make up brushes before use.

    • AVOID SWEATING.  Avoiding activities that could make you hot and sweaty for 24 hours will prevent extra inflammation

    • USE A COLD COMPRESS. You may use a clean, cold compress if you have excess redness.

    • USE AN ANTIOXIDANT SERUM/ COLLAGEN STIMULATING PEPTIDES.  Antioxidant serums have properties that assist in healing the skin. Serums assist in soothing the skin and further reduce irritation. Collagen stimulating peptides assist in giving the skin more collagen to help recover after microneedling and further aiding in the stimulation of collagen production.

  • Waxing / Threading

Please note, some slight soreness, small bumps and redness are common and perfectly normal temporary reactions, particularly if this is your first wax. These symptoms should subside over 24-48 hours.

    For 24 hours, please avoid:

    • Sun, saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools and other heat sources.
    • Heavy exercise, as this causes sweating which can lead to infection in the hair follicle.
    • Wearing tight clothing, as it can result in irritation and ingrown hairs.
    • Perfumed products.

    For Best Results:

    • Exfoliate and moisturise daily to prevent ingrown hairs.

CND Shellac Power Polish Care Advice

Shellac can last flawlessly, with normal wear and tear, for at least 14 days.

    • Be sure to wear gloves if you're doing tough jobs like household cleaning or gardening, hobbies that are rough on your hands or when using harsh chemicals. Doing these things without protection can harm your shellac polish.
    • Avoid using suntan oils or insect repellent on your nails, as many contain solvent oils which will cause damage to the Shellac colour coat.
    • Some of the more delicate Shellac colours can fade in chlorinated water and excessive sun (remember chlorine is a bleach and sun intensifies the bleaching action). Dry your hands and nails after swimming and before sunbathing to minimize any colour fading.
    • Use cuticle oil and moisturise daily to replace lost moisture to your skin and nails.

To remove the polish yourself: soak a cotton pad in acetone, place on the nail and wrap your finger tip or toe in tin foil. After approximately 10-15 minutes the polish will have dried. Gently push the polish off the nail using an orange stick.

    Hand Care Advice

Treat your nails like jewels and not tools.

Always wear gloves for gardening and housework, especially when using chemicals.

    Massage cuticle oil daily.

Use a good hand cream or moisturiser daily.

Do not pick or bite your nails.

Have regular treatments to maintain the condition.

Keep nails clean and at an appropriate length.

Never cut nails, always use a file in one direction, side to centre.

    Foot Care Advice

Wash feet daily and dry thoroughly, especially between toes.

Regularly exfoliate, pumice and moisturise when soft after bathing.

Use cuticle oil or cream daily, especially at night.

Have regular treatments to maintain the condition.

Never cut nails, always use a file in one direction, side to centre.

Keep toenails filed straight across, do not file downsides or pick corners.

    Nail Polish Tips

    Always use a base coat.

Apply a top coat every 2-3 days to prolong the finish and reduce chipping.

Nail varnish is touch dry in 5 minutes, but not smudge-proof for at least 1-2 hours.

To remove regular polish use a non-acetone nail varnish remover.

An acetone-based remover may be required to remove Vinylux Polish, especially on toes.
