Microneedling in Bristol: Does It Really Work for Ageing Skin?

As we get older, many people start to notice changes in their skin. Fine lines may appear, pores can look more visible and the skin can begin to lose some of its natural glow and firmness.  - One treatment that has become increasingly popular for improving skin quality is microneedling.

If you're looking for microneedling in Bristol, this treatment is widely recommended for improving skin texture and stimulating natural collagen production.

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling works by creating tiny micro-channels in the skin using very fine needles. These controlled micro-injuries trigger the body’s natural healing response.  As the skin repairs itself, it produces more collagen and elastin, two essential proteins responsible for keeping skin firm, smooth and youthful.

Over time, this process helps improve the overall quality and appearance of the skin.

What Skin Concerns Can Microneedling Help?

Many clients in their 40s and 50s choose microneedling because it can help improve:

• Fine lines and early wrinkles
• Uneven skin texture
• Enlarged pores
• Acne scarring
• Pigmentation and sun damage
• Loss of skin firmness
• Dull or tired-looking skin

The treatment works particularly well for people who want natural-looking skin improvement without injectables.

How Many Microneedling Treatments Do You Need?

While many clients notice a visible improvement after just one treatment, the best results come from a course of microneedling sessions.  This is because microneedling works by stimulating your skin’s natural collagen production — a process that builds gradually over time.

For the most effective results, I recommend a course of 6 treatments, spaced approximately 3–4 weeks apart. This allows the skin time to repair, renew and strengthen between sessions.

A full course helps to:

✔ improve skin texture more noticeably
✔ soften fine lines over time
✔ refine pores and smooth uneven areas
✔ create a healthier, more radiant overall complexion

After completing your course, maintenance treatments every 12 weeks help to keep collagen levels supported and maintain your results.

Microneedling works best as part of a long-term skin health approach, rather than a one-off treatment.

Is Microneedling Suitable for Everyone?

Microneedling is suitable for many skin types, but a professional consultation is essential before treatment.

During your consultation we assess:

• Skin condition
• Medical history
• Skincare routine
• Treatment goals

This ensures the treatment is safe and appropriate for your skin.

Is Microneedling Painful?

One of the most common questions people ask is whether microneedling is painful.

Most clients are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the treatment feels. During the treatment, very fine needles are used to create tiny micro-channels in the skin. The sensation is often described as feeling similar to a light scratch with a fingernail across the skin.

At Jax-Glam Beauty in Bristol, treatments are always tailored to your comfort level. I use a range of different needle depths and can begin with very shallow, fine needles, gradually increasing the depth only if you are comfortable.

This allows the treatment to be completely personalised to your skin and sensitivity level.

If you are unsure about the sensation, you are welcome to book a patch test first, where a small area of skin can be treated so you can see how it feels before committing to a full treatment.

Many clients find that once they try it, the treatment feels much more comfortable than they expected, and some find it relaxing.

How Long Will My Skin Be Red After Microneedling?

It’s completely normal for your skin to appear red after microneedling, similar to a mild sunburn.

For most clients, this usually settles within 12–24 hours, although depending on your skin sensitivity and the depth of treatment, it can last up to 48 hours.

To support the best results and reduce the risk of irritation, it’s important to plan a quiet day after your treatment, ideally at home. This helps minimise exposure to bacteria while your skin is in its most delicate, freshly treated state.

For hygiene reasons, makeup should be avoided for at least 24 hours after microneedling.

At Jax-Glam Beauty in Bristol, treatments are always tailored to your skin and comfort level, helping to minimise downtime while still achieving effective, long-term results.

What Skincare Can I Use After Microneedling?

After microneedling, your skin is in a very sensitive and active repair phase.

The treatment creates tiny micro-channels in the skin, allowing products to penetrate much deeper than usual. While this is beneficial for professional serums used during treatment, it also means certain ingredients can become too strong and irritating if used too soon afterwards.

For this reason, it’s best to keep your skincare routine simple, gentle and focused on repair for the first few days after treatment.

Hydrating and barrier-supporting products are ideal during this time, including:

Hyaluronic acid – helps draw moisture into the skin, keeping it hydrated and supporting the healing process
Peptide serums – support skin repair and help stimulate collagen, enhancing your results
Gentle moisturisers – help protect and strengthen the skin barrier

These types of products help the skin recover more quickly while maximising the benefits of your microneedling treatment.

What Should You Avoid After Microneedling?

Active ingredients such as:

• Retinol (Vitamin A) • Exfoliating acids (AHAs/BHAs) • Strong vitamin C products

can cause:

✖ irritation and redness ✖ increased sensitivity ✖ dryness or stinging ✖ disruption to the skin barrier

These should be avoided for at least 5 days, depending on how your skin is healing.

Once your skin has fully settled — meaning any redness or sensitivity has gone — active ingredients can be gradually reintroduced, starting slowly (for example, every other night).

At Jax-Glam Beauty in Bristol, you’ll always be given personalised aftercare advice based on your skin and treatment depth.

When Will I See Results From Microneedling?

Some clients notice an improvement in their skin
within a few days of treatment, as the skin appears fresher, smoother and more radiant.

However, the most significant results from microneedling come from collagen production, which takes time to develop.

Most clients begin to see more noticeable improvements after 2–4 weeks, with continued results building over the following months as collagen levels increase.  For the best results, microneedling is recommended as a course of treatments, as each session builds on the previous one and encourages ongoing collagen stimulation.

Over the course of treatments, you can expect to see:

✔ smoother, more refined skin texture
✔ improved skin firmness and elasticity
reduction in the appearance of pores as collagen strengthens the skin
✔ gradual improvement in
scarring and pigmentation
✔ softer fine lines
✔ a healthier, more radiant complexion

A course of 6 treatments allows these changes to develop more fully, creating longer-lasting and more noticeable results.

Microneedling is not a quick fix, but a long-term investment in your skin, helping to gradually improve overall skin quality.
